August - Illustration Commission

I'm currently working on commission samples for a children's book publisher.  Most of the brief is under wraps, but the samples requested were for a "6 year old quirky girl", a "friendly but noble donkey" and a "vintage space station".
I am still using my network of CG friends and colleagues for regular feedback, which is invaluable to the reworking process.

My first set of submissions:

The publishing team felt that the space station needed brightening.  The spec for the girl has changed considerably so I am currently reworking her.  They all liked the donkey!

Happy Endings and the start of something New

It's been an intense and awesome month!

First, graduation... after four years at UCA I have achieved a BA (Hons) First Class Award in CG Arts and Animation!  I've made some good friends, we've laughed and cried together...its been amazing. Aspects of the theory lectures and my dissertation research have made me much more aware and critical of what's around me, and that is a life-changing experience.

After Graduation, some of the class of 2014 took our final year projects to the New Designers Exhibition in London, one of the key shows for design graduates.  Our stand generated lots of interest, and both the awards for animation were won by my class-mates, which I think shows the high standards of our course.

New Designers has been a success for me, both because guests enjoyed "& Son", and because it has generated some potential illustration work for me.  So this is the end of one thing, and the start of something new.  I'm going to continue with this blog rather than start a new "professional" one.  I enjoy being able to reflect on my work, and it's a helpful guide to using 3D software!

As well as blogging, I have a new "professional" website and various other outlets,  so please check them out!

I graduated from The University For The Creative Arts (UCA) Rochester in June 2014 with a BA (Hons) CG Art and Animation First Class Award.

I originally trained as a sound engineer (City & Guilds L3) and worked extensively for festivals, circus, and in technical theatre.

I have also worked as a Foster Carer and a Youth Worker, and I am an active member of the Circus Parents Association, promoting Traveller Education.

I have 2 boys, 2 dogs, and an ironing basket full of cats.

Stitch has ordered some Polydoodle Pictures business cards using group artwork and details; however I hope that in the near future I will need my own cards as well!  Mine are simple, with 2 different designs featuring my own artwork which match my new blog look.
